Tips for handling any stains on carpets

On the left side in bold is a substance that has contaminated your carpet (in alphabetical order) and clean the stain according to the method given. You may have to some sort of cleaning sequence. In each case, the second means are used only after first drying for several hours.

  • Alcohol Clean with shampoo. After shampoo clean surface by solvent.
  • Soft drinks Clean with shampoo and solution of liquid ammonia. If traces remain, clean them with solvent.
  • Mustard Clean with shampoo. If traces remain, clean them with solvent.
  • Mud from the street Allow to dry, lightly brush, then vacuum, then clean with shampoo.
  • Lipstick Clean with solvent, and then shampoo.
  • Perfume Clean with shampoo, then the solvent.
  • Chewing gum Cool with ice to make the gum become brittle, then scrape with a blunt knife. Clean solvent. If there were traces, use clear shampoo.
  • Fat Clean with solvent.
  • Coffee, tea Clear with shampoo, then a solution of ammonia. If there were traces, clean with solvent.
  • Fresh latex paint Pat, then use clear shampoo.
  • Fresh oil paint Clean with solvent.
  • Shoe Polish Clean with solvent, then shampoo and then a solution of ammonia.
  • Blood Wipe with a sponge dipped in cold water, then clean with shampoo. Pat and allow to dry. Wipe with a solution of liquid ammonia.
  • Mayonnaise Clean with solvent. If traces remain, clean them with shampoo.
  • Butter, margarine Clean with solvent.
  • Milk, ice cream Clear with shampoo. If there are grease stains, clean with solvent.
  • Motor Oil Clean with solvent then warm water, then shampoo and solution of liquid ammonia.
  • Urine Clean with shampoo, then a solution of ammonia and, if necessary, more shampoo.
  • Meat Sauce Clean with shampoo and then a solution of ammonia. If there were traces, clean with solvent.
  • Paraffin Cover the stain with brown paper and press moderately with a hot iron to melt the wax. Then clean with solvent.
  • Vegetable oil Clean with solvent. If there were traces, clean with shampoo.
  • Vomiting Clean with a sponge dipped in cold water. Clean with shampoo and then a solution of ammonia.
  • Syrup Clean with solvent.
  • Funds for furniture care Clean with solvent, and then shampoo.
  • Fruits and fruit juices Clean with shampoo and then a solution of ammonia. If there were traces, clean with solvent.
  • Crayons and pencils Clean the solvent, and then shampoo.
  • Ink Clean with mild detergent.
  • Chocolate, other confectionary Clean with shampoo. If there were traces, clean with solvent.
  • Excrement Rinse with a sponge dipped in cold water. Clean with shampoo and then a solution of ammonia.
  • Eggs Clean with shampoo, then a solution of ammonia.

Solvent
Use a patented solvent for dry cleaning of clothes or ethyl alcohol. Attention: most of solvent is flammable. They also can emit toxic fumes. Extinguish all sources of open flames and ensure good ventilation.

Shampoo
Patented shampoo for carpets can be purchased in the form of liquid or crystalline powder. Using the shampoo should be strictly in accordance with the instructions given. To produce a homemade shampoo dissolve in 250 ml of warm water a tablespoon of mild detergent. Do not use detergents or active agents containing bleaching or tinting material. Add a tablespoon of vinegar in shampoo to preserve the colour of the carpet.

Ammonia
Dissolve a tablespoon of clean household ammonia in a glass of warm water.

Always wipe the carpet with a damp sponge after using the shampoo. On the carpet that has been cleaned, place some paper towels and on the towels, place something weighty e.g., a book.
